FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AMERICAN RELIEF COALITION FOR SYRIA CALLS FOR CEASEFIRE DURING EID AL-ADHA HOLIDAY
Washington, D.C. (October 3, 2014)—The American Relief Coalition for Syria (ARCS), a group of 18 U.S.-based relief organizations providing aid to Syrians in need, joins Syrian civil society organizations in calling for a ceasefire in Syria amid Eid al-Adha, a religious holiday that will be celebrated by Muslims worldwide this weekend. A ceasefire on the holiday would help alleviate some of the suffering felt by Syrians on a daily basis and also allow humanitarian organizations to deliver much-needed aid.
This year, Eid al-Adha begins on Saturday, October 4th in North America and will last for four days. With the humanitarian call for a ceasefire, ARCS member organizations hope the Syrian people will be granted relief from their daily despair. It is our hope that this ceasefire will last beyond the holiday and be the beginning of the end of bloodshed and a foundation to build the long-lasting peace that Syrians deserve.
ARCS was founded in 2013 by a group of Syrian-American relief organizations joining forces to form a coalition of aid groups dedicated to collectively providing Syrians with humanitarian assistance. By pooling the talents and expertise of hundreds of professionals, ARCS member organizations cover all fields of aid and development, including food and clothing, shelter, medical aid, education, women’s development, refugee assistance and sustainable living programs.
