Nearly 10 years of war in Syria has created an increase in homelessness, child labor, and domestic violence. Syria Relief & Development (SRD) is responding to the protection needs of people in northern Syria via empowerment centers, such as Balsam Center.
The center operates within two departments. The protection department consists of case managers, specialized psychological support, and a mobile team. The empowerment department consists of a life skills coach that teaches courses in English, math, literacy, fitness, and family counseling.
There is a large presence of displaced people in the surrounding area, and SRD strives to develop the center’s services to reach as many of them as possible. Since the launch of the program, 6,418 people have benefited from its services.
