Position Title: Communication & Outreach Intern
Status: Full-Time (30-35 hours per week)
Duration: 2/1/18 – 5/31/18 (renewable)
Compensation: Paid (DOE)
Location: Washington, DC

Syria Relief and Development (SRD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humanitarian organization working to alleviate the suffering of Syrians in need, is currently looking for a Communication and Outreach Intern. The ideal candidate for this internship will be extremely organized, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills.

Internship Duties

  • Identifies and researches prospective stockholders including the public and private sectors and social media networks
  • Develops positive relations with donors, corporations, organizations and the general public
  • Attends meetings and roundtable discussions with local groups, organizations, and coordinating bodies to promote SRD involvement
  • Assists Advocacy & Outreach manager in designing SRD’s outreach strategy in the DMV area and maintaining contact database and opportunities
  • Schedules and delivers presentations to audiences of diverse backgrounds
  • Supports SRD’s marketing and outreach efforts by managing SRD’s social media platforms (i.e.: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), developing content and campaigns
  • Coordinates with the Fundraising staff/interns to plan, set up strategies and implement activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and writing skills
  • Proficiency in Arabic a plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Energetic with the ability to multitask
  • Experience in communication and handling social media platforms
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with occasionally limited supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong willingness to initiate deadlines and timeframes for assignments and to follow up on all delegated activities
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Desire to work for humanitarian cause
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Internship Duties

  • Develops positive relations with donors, corporations, organizations and the general public
  • Plans, organizes and facilitates fundraising activities (events, dinners, concerts, etc.)
  • Responds to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information; secures donations from donors and provides them with relevant information
  • Schedules and delivers presentations to audiences of diverse backgrounds
  • Assists in all aspects of proposal development from information gathering, searching for grants to coordinating submissions and identifying/communicating risks associated with proposals
  • Prepares concept notes by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes, implementation and methods
  • Maintain quality results by using templates, following proposal writing standards and obtaining approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers
  • Meets proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, reviewing, and approval; entering and monitoring tracking data; coordinating requirements with contributors
  • Coordinates with the Communication and Outreach staff/interns to plan, set up strategies and implement activities
