Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Meets with UN Special Envoy de Mistura

IMG_9253SRD’s Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Isra Chaker met with UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura where she emphasized the importance of utilizing Syrian diaspora organizations, such as SRD, as connectors to local civil society on the ground inside Syria in order to uplift the voices of Syrians. “It’s critical that Syrian diaspora-led organizations like SRD make a push for these opportunities to meet with top humanitarian leaders working on the crisis because we are bringing the Syrian voice to the table,” said Chaker.

Like many of our partners in the American Relief Coalition for Syria, SRD shares direct connections with civilians inside Syria, from our staff who carry out our programs to the beneficiaries who receive our care. “Our job is to not only support them in aid and development, but to guarantee their voices and interests are always at the forefront of advocacy conversations relating to the Syrian crisis,” said Chaker.
