Across crisis-affected and low-resource communities, preventable complications like postpartum hemorrhage, untreated infections, poor nutrition and unaddressed mental-health needs continue to put mothers and babies at risk. Yet we know what works. Proven prevention bundles, trained birth attendants, essential medicines, nutrition support and strong referral systems save lives every day when they are accessible.
Through the For Mama Challenge, SRD is expanding comprehensive maternal and newborn health services that protect women throughout pregnancy, delivery and postpartum recovery. Our 2026 focus includes:
- Preventing and treating postpartum hemorrhage using evidence-based care bundles.
- Expanding access to skilled birth attendants and quality facility-based deliveries.
- Providing maternal and newborn mental-health support.
- Strengthening maternal and infant nutrition, including micronutrient supplementation.
- Reinforcing health systems in humanitarian and low-resource settings.
