In Syria, over 12 million people are food insecure1 and 1.3 million are severely food insecure. Conditions are particularly dire for children with over 553,000 children are chronically malnourished and 245,000 are acutely malnourished. 2 One in three pregnant women is anemic due to inadequate nutrition.10 Deteriorating economic conditions in Syria and the impact of the COVI-19 pandemic have contributed to such exponential rates of food insecurity and malnutrition among the population. Vital interventions like ready-to-eat therapeutic food and infant and young child feeding (IYCF) programs targeting pregnant and lactating women and their children have proven essential for addressing the hunger crisis.

In Northwestern Syria, the echoes of conflict are still heard, but so is the sound of hope. IUSR, the leading private university in the region, is more than an academic institution—it’s a lifeline for thousands of students who have faced unimaginable adversity. Our students are determined to rebuild their lives and their communities, despite having been displaced over 20 times in the past decade. They are studying to become the engineers, teachers, and business leaders who will lead Syria into a brighter future.

However, there’s a critical gap in our vision: healthcare. With healthcare infrastructure severely lacking, countless families are without access to proper medical care. That’s why we’re launching a campaign to build the iUSR University Hospital, a teaching hospital that will not only treat patients but also train the next generation of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals. This hospital will be a beacon of hope and healing for the entire region.
